Lindsey Horner and his new CD - Undiscovered Country
With Undiscovered Country, New York bassist, composer and multi-instrumentalist Lindsey Horner pulls together many of the influences of his varied career. Featuring musicians from the different places he has lived and been inspired by, the result is an eclectic mix that forms a coherent musical statement, a summing up of where he now stands.
Belgian saxophonist Erwin Vann, Togolese guitarist Augustin Foly, New Yorkers violinist Rob Thomas, drummer Allison Miller, guitarist Chris Cunningham, percussionists Jeff Berman and Randy Crafton, Pittsburgh guitarist Colter Harper and Irish music legend Andy Irvine join Lindsey to realize a “World Jazz” sound that is visceral, personal and unique. The project was done through the innovative company, ArtistShare, so there is a great deal of online content available in addition to the CD, giving behind the scenes insight into the process that went into realizing the recording.
The cover is from a painting by the great American artist Alex Katz.

Koby Hayon Trio and their new CD - Gemini
Koby Hayon - Guitar / Compositions
Kermit Driscoll - Acoustic Bass
Jerome Morris - Drums
"Koby's compositions reflect his wide range of musical experience. I can hear his middle-eastern roots on several of the compositions, (check out his improvisations on "Norwegian Wood") , yet on many tunes, "Crumbs" for example, I hear the wide open spaces of the Midwest of America.
A final note, this recording is not for those just looking for a happy diversion. It accurately reflects life today. The challenges ahead, the turmoil around the world is evident in these compositions. Koby has performed the duty of the artist."

Swingadelic the New York City area's hippest "little big band" was with engineer Sal Mormando at Kaleidoscope Sound this week working on their fifth CD release, "The Other Duke". It's a tribute to Duke Pearson, a bandleader, composer, arranger, pianist, and A&R man for Blue Note Records during the 60's and 70's. Aside from his own releases, Pearson produced and played on many Stanley Turrentine and Donald Byrd records of that era, and around that same time produced his most well known composition "Cristo Redentor" with Byrd.
Ten Duke Pearson tunes were arranged by various Swingadelic band members, which included Audrey Welber/alto sax, Paul Carlon/tenor sax & flute, Jeff Hackworth/baritone sax, Carlos Francis and Albert Leusink/trumpets, Rob Susman, Rob Edwards & Rob Fournier/trombones, Boo Reiners/guitar, John Bauers/piano, Paul Pizzuti/drums and Dave Post/bass.
Swingadelic plays the first Monday of each month at Maxwells in Hoboken, and you can check them out on Facebook, MySpace, or at their own site.

Stephane Wrembel is back in Studio A with long time engineer Alex Venguer to re-record his first album, which was recorded almost ten years ago when Wrembel was a student at the Berklee School of Music. As a student, Wrembel didn't have the funds to record in a professional studio, so he and his trio (two guitars and bass) gathered at a friend's house with some basic recording gear, and in a matter of hours, recorded the whole album.
Years passed and Wrembel went on to produce a couple records for other artists, as well as produce and perform his own material. As he gained more experience as a musician and producer, he was invited to record with David Grisman for one of Grisman's projects out in California.
"My friends and fans have been asking me for years to re-release this album" said Wrembel when asked about his decision to redo the album.
"I decided to re-record the whole album in the same vein as the first session in 2001, except this time record it better. It's still a trio (two guitars and bass), still a jam session with all of us in the same room, still the same songs, but now in a professional studio, with a professional sound engineer, and more experienced musicians."
